Excerpt

My swords swished through the air, making sharp sounds as they cut down thick branches. I glided in a tight circle, keeping the first attackers at a safe distance and slicing through them, one at a time. My muscles bulged and contracted, my grip changing as the blades danced around me, and I could feel the cold trickle of sweat down my arms, chest, and back.

They quickly figured out that too many of them meant too wide of a circle and they could not approach without poking each other’s eyes out, so they switched to attacking two or three at a time. I smirked and continued moving at the same pace, attacking just when they were counting on a defensive move, trimming down their numbers. Swordplay wasn’t something anyone but the Japanese practiced much these days. Everyone focused on close combat and making do with whatever they found nearby. That was a great strategy for times when you were surprised and needed to be confident in your victory. I supposed one wolf mocking your rules qualified for that, unless said wolf was me.

The last group approached, anger and murderous thoughts making their eyes burn. They had seen their pack-mates fall and I knew they wanted to tear me to pieces. They were going to do just that eventually, but I wasn’t planning on making it any easier for them. I wasn’t looking for an easy out. What I wanted was one last stand, one more chance to be the samurai I’d always seen myself as. Fight many, die with honor. Like my parents had done before me, I wanted to find my death on the battlefield. Sure, they hadn’t gone looking for their untimely demise, but then again, they’d been together until the moment they died. They’d only thought they’d have to face the world without the other and did the craziest things they could in that short amount of time.

As the last one got wounded badly enough to cease the fight, I placed each blade on one side and sat on the ground, my legs crossed in front of me. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing, clearing my mind of the battle I had just survived and focusing on the next one. The second wave was getting closer, I felt it, and that some of them had already started shifting to their human forms, trying to find the best potential weapons, just like their tribe mates before them.

Not all the wolves that had been in the first attack had died. Some were just wounded and I saw them crawling away, dragging their bodies over the unfriendly terrain and away from me. If they had any brains, they’d use whatever energy they had to shift. It would still hurt like a bitch, but the wounds would heal faster. They might even get their chance at revenge before the fight was over.

Welcome to the Heat Season…

…where werewolves run wild, driven by ranging hormones and a deep need to find their mate. Or mates. Or just have some fun!

I honestly believe nature is great at compensating. So for a population that’s a minority to start with, has a pretty low number of pregnancies, and cannot randomly turn everyone… nature compensated with the spring heat season. Werewolf tribes are rarely at peace, so that makes things even more complicated when it comes to keeping their numbers stable. What’s the solution to that? Every werewolf, no matter gender, goes into heat around the spring equinox, in late March.

Heat season is a big part of werewolf culture. If you have a mate, you’re safe. If you don’t… you either party through it, try and work on your martial arts skills (like Shiki did a few times in his life), or are consumed by the need to be with your mate. You will see a bit more of this both celebrated and dreaded part of the shifter year in book two of the Tales of the Werewolf Tribes series, just to understand how brutal it can be.

What happens during heat season though? Well, imagine having arousing images playing in your head non-stop, keeping you wanting, needing, looking for release. Every suitable partner is suddenly a tasty morsel you just want to try. Unless you’re mated. If you are, everything pushes you to go find your mate and ravish them. Fun, right? Obviously, March/April becomes vacation season. The best perk? Cheaper prices when you travel 😀

Nature might like to compensate, but life is rarely fair. So what else happens in spring, sometimes at the same time as the heat season? Well, nothing major, just one of the mandatory Tribe Councils. Can you imagine negotiating… anything, really, while everyone is horny and aggressive? Fun, right? Yes, I love to torture my characters, even if not always explicitly.

The good news is you have a lot of cool things to look forward to after Strength to Let Go. Yet, I can’t help wonder what would happen if humans went through something similar. Would strip clubs be always full? Would we all kill our phones overusing our dating apps? Care to guess which scenario would be best?

TRAILER

EXCERPT

Donovan King had never before laid eyes on such a beautiful creature. She looked like an angel. Her golden hair tumbled in careless waves past her shoulders. Her plump, cherry red lips looked lush and full. But it was her eyes that mesmerized him. Even behind those thick, black-rimmed glasses, her eyes were the first feature he noticed. A color that he’d heard about but had never actually seen on someone in the flesh—violet eyes. There were purple smudges under them, the only thing marring her lovely features, indicating a weariness that someone so young should never have to endure.

A threadbare, baggy jumper and a long floral skirt hid most of her figure, but he could tell, even under her shapeless clothing, that she was slender, too slender. Her wrist that poked out of one floppy sleeve was so pale and delicate that he imagined the simplest flick of his fingers could snap it in two—the thought sent a cold jolt through him.

He peered out of the window of the service station and studied the cars, his gaze alighting on a beat-up old Commodore that had definitely seen better days. He’d bet his left arm that the car was hers. Anger suffused him. How could anyone allow this young woman to drive such a deathtrap? Didn’t she have anyone looking out for her interests? He shuddered to think what could happen to her if she ever broke down alone and at night.

Donovan snapped his gaze back to the woman, her increasingly frantic movements drawing his attention once more. She looked panicked and had ducked her head to rummage through a shabby handbag.

He looked past her to the service station attendant who kept drumming his fingers impatiently. Donovan lowered his gaze to a crumpled five-dollar note and a few coins scattered on the counter.

The angel looked up, her face flushed, hands shaking. “I know I have it. Just a moment.”

Her sexy voice, husky and low, hit him like a sledgehammer. It was deeper than he’d expected and sent hot desire unfurling in his belly.

A gruff cough from farther back in the growing line spurred Donovan into action. One long stride brought him level with the counter. “How much?” he snarled at the attendant.

Ten bucks.”

Donovan threw a ten-dollar note onto the counter and scooped up the money the woman had already deposited there. He grasped one of her delicate hands in his and tugged her gently away from the other customers.

GUEST POST

A Naïve Heroine

In The King of Infierno, my heroine Makayla Carrington, is shy and a little awkward. She’s led a sheltered upbringing caring for her mentally ill mother. They are not wealthy, nor does Makayla have any close family members who can share her burden.

Makayla’s mother, Josephine, suffers from Bipolar disorder and the doctor suspects, slight schizophrenia. Her mother’s mental illness makes it impossible for Makayla to lead a normal life. Josephine’s erratic behaviour, severe mood swings and general unpredictability has Makayla terrified of leaving her mother alone.

Makayla managed to finish school but during her school years, those activities enjoyed by her school friends such as the movies, shopping and going to parties were out of Makayla’s reach. She had to grow up quickly, learning to care for her mother, managing their limited household budget and paying their bills. In doing so, Makayla was unable to experience the life situations that would give her the refinement necessary to feel confident and self-assured. Makayla lacks social poise and sophistication — she’s naïve and insecure.

Makayla’s financial circumstance makes it impossible for her to seek the appropriate treatment for her mother. Instead, they live day by day with the hope that something, somewhere will change for the better.

Donovan King, my hero, initially appears to be the miracle that Makayla has been unwittingly waiting for. A chance meeting leaves Donovan intrigued and unusually infatuated with the waif-like Makayla. Donovan’s alpha male tendencies kick into overdrive and he’s driven by a primal need to pursue and protect the lovely creature that fate thrust in his path.

About My Book

He’s been her ultimate untouchable desire.

Nothing says happy birthday like a rock god flying thousands of miles to surprise a woman he’s never met. But that’s exactly what happens to Gabi Smith when she gives her long distance best friend a flippant invitation to her laid back girl’s night out. She never expected to turn on the dance floor and find Blake Kennedy’s gaze holding her body captive.

She’s his everything and he’s never laid eyes on her.

Gabi means more to Blake than life itself. She’s his strength, his savior, and the only person who helped to vanquish his demons. No one means more to him than his angel. So when things between them start to sizzle, he’s ready to fight for the future he never thought he would deserve.

Skeletons from his past will threaten his only chance at love…

Blake has come a long way—with Gabi’s help—to leave the hell of his youth behind him, but sometimes memories don’t want to stay buried. Determined to stand on his own for once, Blake is willing to stretch the truth to keep his troubles from burdening the woman he adores.

Little white lies can create black holes in any relationship. Only time will tell if an Aussie with a heart of gold will forgive her bad-boy boyfriend or if the deceit will end his passionate addiction.

Inside Dirt on Blake Kennedy by Mitch, Mason,
Ryan & Sean

Want some dirt on the tattooed, smart-mouthed,
bass guitarist of the group? Well, Mason, Mitch, Ryan, and Sean are here to let
you have it. In the lead up to the Passionate Addiction release, the guys
of Reckless Beat want you to be aware that the famous bass guitarist isn’t as
shit-hot as he seems to be.
So here’s the dirt –

Mitch: The fucker snores. Loud. Not all the time. Only when
he’s really tired, but it gets so bad I’ve contemplated smothering him on more
than one occasion.

Mason: He never keeps secrets. In fact, he uses them as leverage, or
blurts them out at inappropriate times because he thinks he’s funny. He’s not funny.

Ryan: Blake is pretty cool. But his preference
not to drink alcohol means he has the perfect opportunity to set the rest of us
up when we’re drunk. I’ve woken up more than once with ‘Loser’ written in
permanent marker across my forehead. I don’t appreciate that.

Sean: My bro, Blake, is a pussy magnet. The tattoos, wrist cuffs, and
merciless raven eyes get ‘em every time. And you may think he doesn’t notice
the attention, but he does, and he loves it. Cocky little fucker.Inside Dirt on Blake Kennedy by Mitch, Mason,

A Little More About Me

Name:

Blake
Kennedy

Chief disappointments:

The
mistakes I’ve made in my life. I’ve made some shitty moves. Onward and upward
though, right?

What do you look like? (Include height, weight, hair,
eyes, skin, apparent age, and distinguishing features)

Spiked dark hair, brown eyes and more ink than your local stationery
shop.

What is your most prized mundane possession?

Why do
you value it so much?
My first guitar. It
was a Gibson acoustic. Second hand, with scratches and a chip in the wood at
the first fret. But it’s a symbol of where I’ve come from and where I’ll never
go back to.

What one word best describes you?

Damaged.

What was your family like?

Worse than most but better than some. My upbringing made
me work for what I have, so it couldn’t have been all that bad.
What is your fondest, childhood memory?

When my music teacher decided not to give up on me.
Instead, he dragged me into his classroom to spend his lunch breaks teaching me
guitar. It gave me something to focus on. A passion to divert my mind away from
family life and the kids who wanted to kick my ass for the threadbare clothes I
wore.

What is your worst childhood memory?

There’s too many to name. Not that they were all crappy,
just that there weren’t many that were good.

What were you like in high school? What
“clique” did you best fit in with?

I was
the loner. The loser. The kid who wore secondhand clothes and got the shit
kicked out of me.

What were your high school goals?

To make something of myself and get out of my shitty life.

Do you have a job? What is it? Do you like it? If no
job, where does your money come from?

I’m the
bass guitarist for Reckless Beat—the best fuckin’ bassist to walk the stage
*winks*

What is your boss or employer like? (Or publisher, or
agent, or whatever.)

Our label is…professional.
I guess that’s the only word to describe them without getting in trouble. But
our band manager, Leah, is a hard ass. She doesn’t let us get away with shit.

What are your co-workers like? Do you get along with
them? Any in particular? Which ones don’t you get along with?

The guys of Reckless Beat are my family. I depend on them
for everything. As much as the constant sarcasm annoys me, I wouldn’t change
them for anything.

Do you tend to save or spend your money? Why?

Save. I grew up without money. I like to know I’ve always
got some on standby. No matter how healthy the bank account gets.

What bands do you like? Do you even pay attention?

I like a lot of music. Especially some of the indie bands
coming out these days. I like to cheer on the underdog so I tend to search for
unknown artists and stick to the ones who move me.

What song is “your song?” Why?

Ha. I actually created a song for the woman I love, but
I’m not going to give out any more details. You’ll have to read about it.

What annoys you more than anything else?

Mason. Is that a good enough answer? I’m pretty sure the
whole band feels the same way. The guy is a loveable douche.

Would you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or
something else? Why?

I’m not bi. I
definitely don’t like dick. But I’m happy to share the fun with friends. As
long as a woman is involved, I’m there.

Have you ever had a same-sex experience? Who with, what
was it like, and how did it go?

Apart from the time
Mitch crawled into the wrong bed and thought I was Alana, the answer would be
no. I gotta tell ya, the feel of another guys dick spooning into my ass isn’t
something fun to wake up to.

What was the wildest thing you’ve ever done, sexually?
Who was it with and when did it happen?

I don’t
really consider anything ‘wild’ anymore. On tour you have these nights that
turn into a blur of sex and carnality. I’m not a prude, so nothing seems too
wild.

What was the worst injury you’ve ever received? How did
it happen?

I’ve done some pretty
stupid shit with drugs. I didn’t receive any physical injuries but the
emotional ones cut pretty deep.

Prologue

Lost: Is anyone there? I need help.Blake Kennedy typed with shaky hands, hoping one of the four people in the online chat room would respond. There hadn’t been any talk amongst them since he signed on five minutes ago, and he’d begun to worry they wouldn’t reply.

This was his last option. His only option. He didn’t know what else to do. He had no one to turn to. No one to trust. And if he didn’t pull his shit together soon, his life wouldn’t be worth living.

Modaroo: I’m here. How can I help?

He rested his fingers against the keypad. The tattoo marking his right-hand knuckles mocked him in thick black, broken text–Reckless. No shit. He should get “moronic” splayed across the other hand.

Lost: I need a distraction. I can’t go back again. I just want someone to keep me company until the burn wears off.

The demons were overtaking him, clawing, enticing—almost succeeding at dragging him back to the dark side. He huffed out a breath and wiped the sweat of exhaustion from his forehead.

The anonymity of the internet was his only solace. Support meetings weren’t an option, neither was rehab. If the paparazzi or anyone in the public found out about his problem, he would be booted from Reckless Beat and disgraced in front of a worldwide crowd.

Modaroo: I can do that. I’m quite adept at chatting about inconsequential things until I put people to sleep. It’s a female thing.

He gave a half-hearted laugh, and the noise came out stuttered, maniacal. This was good, though. It was a start. The pounding agitation in his chest even wavered, igniting a spark of hope.

Lost: So you’re a female and enjoy staying up late chatting in drug addiction support groups? Are you a moderator or an abuser?

Modaroo: Yes, I’m female. One of, if not the most stunningly brilliant females you will ever encounter. But no, I’m not a late night person. I love my sleep. I assume I’m on the other side of the world to you. I live down under 😉 And yes, I’m a moderator.

Blake’s cell phone vibrated on the couch cushion beside him with an incoming call. He rushed to grab it, to smother the miniscule noise. The laptop teetered on his thighs, threatening to fall.

“Shit.” Clutching the phone in one hand and the laptop in the other, he closed his eyes, breathed deep, and waited for the buzzing to stop. Each passing second tempted him, pulled at him, demanding he answer. His demons knew who was calling. He didn’t need to glimpse the screen to verify.

Seconds later, sweet relief rushed through his veins. He passed the first test. If he could ignore the calls, maybe he could overcome everything else. First thing in the morning, he would change his phone number. For now, though, he would turn the damn thing off.

He glanced across the hotel suite toward Mitchell Davies’ open bedroom door. The lead guitarist must have sensed Blake’s restlessness after tonight’s performance and had started asking questions. Questions Blake didn’t want to answer, or couldn’t answer, if he wanted to keep his position in the band. He’d only been part of the team for eight months and already he’d fucked up. Big time.

Lost: Yeah, I’m in the States. It’s three a.m. here, and I’m so fucking tired. I just want to sleep, but the crazy-ass nightmares won’t quit.

So tell me about Australia. What’s it like down under?

He needed to stop thinking about it. To stop turning every thought process into something that related to the white powder destroying his life.

Modaroo: Withdrawal can be nasty on your mind and body. Just remember, it’s all temporary, and it WILL get better. Do you have someone locally you can depend on?

And what’s it like down under? Pretty darn awesome. At the moment, the weather is hot, the air con is cold, and the beach is looking mighty fine.

Blake ignored her question. He had no one. Not a single soul, and he refused to tell her why.

Lost: You surf?

Modaroo: A little. I can stay on a board for about as long as I can hold my breath.

He let out another laugh. This time it came easier, more natural, less hysterical.

Lost: Lol. So in other words, you kinda suck.

Modaroo: Now, now. No need to point out my failings. I prefer to think of it as a balance imperfection.

Blake snickered and ran a lazy hand through the tangled spikes at the front of his hair. A total stranger, on the other side of the world, had made him laugh for the first time in months.

She was his savior.

Lost: Your failings are nothing in comparison to mine, honey. I’m going to lose the best thing that ever happened to me if I don’t control my cravings for cocaine.

Modaroo: Sorry, Lost, but please don’t use specific drug names in the open chat rooms. The reminder can be harmful to others.

Shit. The last thing he wanted to do was make things harder for another addict.

Lost: Sorry.

Modaroo: Not a problem. So is it a woman?

Lost: A woman?

He rotated his shoulders, cracked his neck, and stretched his arms above his head. The state of relaxation was miles away. However, each second chatting with this woman brought him closer.

Modaroo: The “best thing” you will lose.

He clenched his fists. Disgust and self-loathing were his companions, and he was too weak to do anything about it. All of this pain, suffering, and craziness because of one simple little thing—beauty.

Oh, and lust.

Lost: No. A woman is what got me into this mess in the first place.

He led her to the playroom.

“Feel free to touch and hold anything.”

“I’m not sure I’m that brave.” She wandered around. A slender chest of drawers was pushed against one wall. Despite the fact there were no windows, the space seemed light and airy. The wooden floor was polished and, as she expected, all of the items in the room were obsessively organized.

“What is that?” she pointed to an odd-looking contraption in the corner. It had two different pads, set at different heights. It was covered in red vinyl, and the metal stand was painted a glossy black.

“Spanking bench.”

“It looks like a chair.” She considered it. “Of sorts.”

“It’s a versatile piece. The knobs on the side allow the back platform to be adjusted by about a foot and the lower portion can be unlocked so it folds down. Eyehooks allow the Dom to bind a sub in any number of ways. You can kneel on the bottom part and be secured to the top. I can have you stand and grab the top. From the opposite side, you can be fastened to the lower end so that you’re bent over more. I can even make it all the same height. The possibilities are almost endless.”

She realized he’d started out by talking about the spanking bench in general terms. But then he’d become more specific. Instead of discussing how a Dom restrained a sub, now he was being explicit about what he expected from her. “This place seems pretty kinky for a man who says he’s only looking for a submissive to show him respect.”

“I did say I enjoyed kinky sex,” he reminded her, his eyes dancing with a devilment that made her shiver.

“You did.” A number of floggers hung on the walls, along with other scary-looking implements of pain.

“You indicated you’d had some experience with a flogger.”

“It didn’t look quite like those. It was shorter, not as…” She searched for the right word. “Sturdy. Less expensive, maybe?” She doubted it had even been made of leather. Even from a few feet away, there was no mistaking the scent of these. “I’m not really sure what everything else is. Some, I can guess.” The cane, for example.

He took down a coiled piece of leather. It was black, braided and fearsome.

“This is a single tail,” he said. “It’s a type of whip.”

“Looks like something out of an action-adventure movie.” She stared, fascinated. “Do you carry it when you go looking for the Holy Grail?”

“This whip does know how to get to the bottom of things. It’s particularly attracted to smart-asses.”

She hadn’t seen this side of him, a ferocious scowl softened by an easy tone. It made him more complex, more real, approachable. “You know, I kind of like that image,” she teased. Maybe a little too much. “I can see you as a dashing moving hero. Sir Indiana Jones, perhaps?” Damn if all of this didn’t add to his appeal, not that she needed any more reasons to be attracted to him.

“Let’s see if I can be as accurate with it as Indy was, shall we?” He shook out the single tail.

Who Loves Kink? Count Me In!

By Sierra Cartwright

I adore everything about Doms, from their sexiness and confidence to their determination and laser-like attention.

I’ve been writing BDSM romance for almost ten years, and penning stories about these larger-than life alpha men continues to delight me. In fact, the longer I write, the more I love them.

For me, Doms in romance novels are special because they focus on bringing their submissive pleasure like they’ve never known.

The communication between the Dom and sub is astoundingly deep. He won’t let her hide, even from herself. He’ll continue to question her until she reveals her deepest desires. At times, she may say something in passing that he takes in and remembers.

BDSM requires a huge amount of trust. The submissive must be willing to offer it. More importantly, the Dom must be worthy. There’s a line between “enough” and “too much,” and the hero must know how to navigate it.

He must watch her actions carefully, read her expressions, note her breathing pattern. At times, he must be more aware of her mental and emotional state than she is, especially if she’s slipping into subspace.

And after a scene is over, he needs to give her what she needs, be it a hug, a blanket, silence, space to talk, a drink of water.

Being the focus of her Dom’s complete attention is an amazing experience for my submissives. Even if she were a novice when she went in, she will want to experience this kind of sublime experience again. But even my experienced subs will crave the attention of the Dom she really connects with.

Lara Bertrand, the heroine of Bind from Totally Bound, has yearned to experiment in the bedroom, but none of her previous boyfriends have been willing to try anything with her.

A desperate family situation forces her to take the bold step of proposing to Connor Donovan. The man is a tycoon, head of the impressive Donovan dynasty, and he’s as sexy as he is intimidating. When she’s alone with him for the first time, she learns that he’s a Dominant. Lara soon understands that Connor will give her what she wants, but in return, he’ll demand more than she’s ever given to anyone else…

Review

It was a hot and erotic read.  I have read quite a few BDSM books, and this one I do not really consider it a BDSM book.  It is more like a romance with some BDSM elements.  I love the two main characters.  Lara Bertrand is a strong woman who care so much for her family business that she will do almost anything to save it.  In come Connor Donovan, he is intelligent, disciplined and handsome to boots.  Lara need someone like him to help her safe her company.  So, she proposed they get married in order for him to be on the board as a family member.  Connor agreed to help her, but there are terms of his own, which Lara is not sure if she can handle.  The story is basically where Lara learn what Connor want from her before the big day.  I am not going to give out any spoilers.  It is a little like The Fifty Shade of Grey.  Sierra Cartwright is a very good writer.

Sierra Cartwright was born in Manchester, England and raised in Colorado. Moving to the United States was nothing like her young imagination had concocted. She expected to see cowboys everywhere, and a covered wagon or two would have been really nice!

Now she writes novels as untamed as the Rockies, while spending a fair amount of time in Texas…where, it turns out, the Texas Rangers law officers don’t ride horses to roundup the bad guys, or have six-shooters strapped to their sexy thighs as she expected. And she’s yet to see a poster that says Wanted: Dead or Alive. (Can you tell she has a vivid imagination?)

Sierra wrote her first book at age nine, a fanfic episode of Star Trek when she was fifteen, and she completed her first romance novel at nineteen. She actually kissed William Shatner (Captain Kirk) on the cheek once, and she says that’s her biggest claim to fame. SubmitForRedemptionBSBLURB:

When Army Ranger Captain Everett Palmer enters gay BDSM club Cuffed Links, he is seeking brutal punishment for what he perceives to be an unforgivable failure: allowing an entire squad of men under his command to die while he worked to defuse a bomb at his base. Everett initially wants only pure pain, which professional interrogator and jaded British aristocrat Colonel Phineas Bainbridge is more than prepared to give. Their meeting, however, is not at all by chance.

Phineas has been contracted to coerce a false confession from Everett, implicating the captain in planting the bomb. Phineas has tortured many men in the past, but there is something different about Everett Palmer, a man whose sheer purity of soul causes the colonel to question his every selfish, devious act and legion of war crimes.

In Submit for Redemption: Book One – Submission, erotic romance and spiritual redemption come from the most unexpected places – from the seedy extremes of a smoke-laden, neon-drenched bondage den to the tropical, hedonistic pleasures of Phineas’ private Greek island.

On this unbidden psychosexual odyssey, Everett and Phineas find exactly what they don’t expect: a chance to redeem their troubled souls and fulfil their every romantic ideal. But the clock is ticking. The deeper Phineas falls in love with Everett, the harder it becomes to finish his assigned task. If he succeeds, the consequences may be far more explosive than he ever anticipated.

EXCERPT

Reggie licked a stray tendril of cream from his glove and bared his teeth. Still carrying the bowl of syrup, he raised the whip above his head, sending it zinging toward the young captain’s ball sack but only lightly clipping it. He hadn’t even spilled any of the warmed syrup in the process.

“Ahh! God!” Ev sang. He immediately began to feel the swelling. It was almost the exact sensation as being kicked in the groin, only somehow worse. Whereas the latter experience produced only a dull ache, this new sensation was similar, but turned quickly into a lacerating burn. It didn’t stop for minutes afterward.

Reggie laughed heartily and placed the bowl of syrup on the mantle, raising a long black cigarette holder, a much more formal and pretentious model than he had used earlier. He clicked open his lighter, puffing with satisfaction, hands behind his back, looking very full of himself. This man was a true piece of work, Everett marveled. He’s enjoying my pain. He was unsure of how far he would take this; this turn of events was too drastic, too perverse. Yet something gnawed at him, a feeling he couldn’t entirely deny or distrust. Pleasure? He recoiled, repulsed with himself.

“Now, my good captain,” his tormentor smirked. “Was that more what you were seeking?”

Everett shuddered, the motion sending him swaying in his bindings, as every new sensation washed over him like rose-tinted sewage. Although all of this was foreign and terrifying, his cock didn’t care, hardening at some hidden promise these new experiences held for it, for him. It bobbed, almost slapping his stomach, anticipating what awaited: his complete helplessness, this brute’s obvious pleasure, other unknown humiliations and tortures, and still, above all, the pain. The glorious, mind-numbing pain! For a minute, nothing existed but agony. And it was good, too good. And the least he deserved.

“Can you do that again?” Everett Palmer found himself asking, much to his astonishment. “Perhaps a bit… harder?”

“Oh? Well, Mr. Twist,” Reggie mocked, “I would be more than happy to give you more.” He looked down his regal nose at Everett as if he were an insect, letting the rich smoke float around him in a fog. “But I’m afraid that you’ll have to beg me for the next round. Just remember,” he purred, stroking his impressive physique and preening like a peacock in the mirror that topped the black-marbled fireplace. “I’m a sucker for flattery.” He adjusted the glittering stock pin in the center of his collar, tidying it pointlessly.

Everett blanched. He wasn’t ready to fawn over this man, this sadist. Yes, he enjoyed it. Yes! But to compliment this, this…

“I’d rather not,” he responded, looking away.

“Ah, well,” Reggie crooned, his tongue darting out to wet his lips, “I shall take what I want anyway. I always do.” He sneered.

Submit for Redemption: Book 1 – Submission tells the story of Captain Everett Palmer and Colonel Phineas Bainbridge, the professional torturer who has been hired to break him. The Original Pitch – Kathryn Sparrow on “Submit for Redemption”

When Robert Cage and I discovered we were both writers and he suggested we write something together, I was thrilled. Robert had been writing for years and had professional experience under his belt. I was brand new to writing and knew I would learn so much.

I had read a fanfiction story about a character in Criminal Minds seeking pain from another character in because he felt guilty about the death of his ex-wife. It was a wonderful, well-written story. I wanted to write a story like that, but I had promised myself I wouldn’t write BDSM.

However, Robert wrote BDSM, so I started to think about that idea again, removing the elements that were specific to Criminal Minds and considering what the core idea really was.

I found there were two elements that intrigued me.

1) Guilt and the need for punishment.

As someone who has suffered from clinical depression, I knew about feeling guilt, especially irrational guilt. During my illness, my creative imagination made me feel guilt about things I imagined. I trotted out every mistake I had ever made and mentally punished myself for it. It took a lot of work and help to put things in perspective. So, the theme was close to home and definitely worth exploring.

2) Trading sex for punishment

I imagined a main character who felt such strong guilt that he felt he needed physical pain to atone for his sins. This need for pain was not related to kink or sexual desire in his mind. However, he had heard about a club near where he lived, a Gay BDSM club. He realized if he was willing to have sex with one of the men at the club, then he could get the pain he felt he deserved. He decided it was a price he was willing to pay.

So, I invented Captain Everett Palmer of the US Army Rangers. A man who lost the entire team under his command and instead of being punished for it, he was given a medal and called a hero. He felt he needed to answer for his crimes, and if the army wouldn’t punish him, then he would find someone to do it for them.

I sent a page of text about this to Robert and the fun began…

No Man Is an Island… Or Is He? – Robert Cage on “Submit for Redemption”

“Well, what do you think? I asked for a GI Joe on my fourth birthday and my father buys me an island. I’m on the beach, whenever you want to come down and sit your beautiful ass on Phineas.” – Note from Phineas (Finny) Bainbridge to Everett Palmer that Ev finds upon waking on the Isle of Phineas. – Submit for Redemption: Book One – Submission, Chapter 7.

Something just clicked about placing two-thirds of the action in Submit for Redemption: Book One on a private island.

Colonel Phineas Bainbridge, Duke of Stratham, has been assigned by a mysterious client to obtain a false confession from Army Captain Everett Palmer. He initially thinks it will be an extraordinarily easy job and, on the basis of the videos he’s received of Everett in the showers, a pleasurable one, too. But, even though his first session with the captain surpasses all of the Duke’s expectations in terms of passionate erotic epiphany, it doesn’t work so well in terms of breaking Everett’s spirit. No, Everett’s most severe punisher is himself, a realization that’s phenomenal for a self-absorbed man like Finny. He quickly realizes it will take a much more extended session to probe and dismantle Everett’s psyche…

So, a getaway to somewhere secluded seemed in order. And what better place for an aristocrat to vacation than an island named after himself? Kathryn Sparrow (my co-author) and I wanted to find a destination that was “close” to Kabul Afghanistan geographically and yet seemed like another world. I had picked the name Phineas for the character early on (as a somewhat backhanded tribute to the wayward hero of John Knowles’ novel A Separate Peace), and since Phineas was also a Greek king, I thought the Greek isles might be a nice fantasy location.

Phineas is quite a unique island. It is closest in proximity to the real island of Mikonos. Though relatively small, it sports a very large main house which serves as a hotel for the members of Phineas’ company, Stratham LLC. The Doms who head Stratham (and their subs) journey there for a meeting every two months that is framed around a weekend of eating, drinking, being pampered, and indulging in various sexual pleasures. A white sandstone tower lies only a few feet away from the main house with a large penthouse at the top — Phineas’ private residence while on the island. Next to that is a full gym, and open-air stone stables at one end of the island house plenty of horses for riding along the island’s sandy trails. Several private houses dot the perimeter of the other end of the island, where its few permanent residents live. The main house is equipped with a full ballroom for entertaining and “stage shows” as well as a fully functioning nightclub (“Club Sub”) that seems to be open all year round. If there was ever a job to envy, it has to be living on Phineas full-time and being paid to “hang out” at Club Sub when needed, to instill envy and intrigue among the occasional guests of Finny, his associates, and family. And then there’s the twenty-shower-headed bathroom in Phineas’ tower, overlooking the Aegean Sea, designed to replicate a tropical rain forest…

The island itself is a good metaphor for Finny in that it’s completely apart from the world by its physical nature. It symbolizes his wealth and status but it also speaks of his loneliness. Most of the staff of Stratham are in shock when Finny brings Everett along to their bi-monthly meeting — the captain is obviously one of Finny’s assignments, but beyond that, most find it odd that Finny isn’t hiding away in his tower, alone as usual. He’s social for the first time. The weekend documented in Book One is the first time any of the other subs have ever met the reclusive duke.

Throughout one heady, whirlwind, romantic weekend, Finny finds his closed-off self-hating world breaking open, and the fruits of love, kindness, and caring rush at him full force, changing his view of his life forever. Every minute he spends with Everett on the Isle of Phineas makes it harder for him to finish the job he’s been assigned to complete. And the harder Finny falls for Everett, the harder it is for the duke to go back to his ruthless, selfish lifestyle.

Unfortunately, Finny’s employers aren’t that understanding. By giving his heart to Everett, Finny may also be risking something he didn’t intend — Everett’s life.

GUEST POST

Taken In Gets Wild After Dark by Wendi Zwaduk

I’ve often wondered what would happen if the world fell apart and the vampires, shifters and other paranormals took over the planet. Would it be scary? Dreary? When I was asked to write for the Wild After Dark anthology and was given the notion of creatures of the night, I ran with my idea.

The characters of Kitty, Vic and Gale came to mind quickly. It’s funny. When I’m given a writing challenge such as the creatures of the night theme, my brain goes into overdrive almost immediately. In this case, Kitty, Vic and Gale started talking right away. She wanted nothing more than to be with them. Vic and Gale, while somewhat clueless about long-term relationships, were both completely taken with her.

At first, I had to sort out exactly who was who and what was what. I stopped and listened to them. Sounds like it wouldn’t be hard—there has to be a vampire, a shifter and a human and the guys have to focus on the girl. In theory, yes, it’s a simple grouping, but these three weren’t simple. They’re all fragile and wounded in their own ways.

Vic is a thick, strong shifter. He was the kid in school who got made fun of for being short and stocky, but wanted for football and other contact sports. Once his secret—shifting—was found out, he suffered from being teased for sprouting fur. Until he met Gale, he didn’t think he belonged. Gale became the other half Vic had been looking for.

Gale always lived in the dark. As a vampire, sunlight was dangerous, but since the darkness enveloped the earth, he could move freely. Where Vic’s short and stocky, Gale’s tall, thin and handsome, but he’s pale. He never dealt with bullying because he wasn’t around many people. Meeting Vic was meeting a kindred spirit. They belonged together as friends.

But they needed a third. They needed their girl. They don’t come to the conclusion right away, but when they do, the connection is electric.

Who do they choose? Kitty, a human woman. Whereas Vic and Gale are physically strong, Kitty has the most emotional strength. She’s had to endure the change in the world. The humans are viewed as a commodity and there to serve the paranormal individuals. She longs for time with Vic and Gale because they’re nice to her and handsome. She feels safe in their arms. When they come together as three, the sparks are off the charts.

But she can’t be with them all the time. She’s a commodity and works at the Storefront—a place for the paranormals and supernaturals to use the humans as they see fit. Not a very good life, but she endures because she knows she can see Vic and Gale there. She longs for them and a simpler life where she’s not a servant.

Quite a few details, don’t you think? I agree.

Once I got all those details sorted out, I began writing their story. I’m thrilled with the result. Three wounded souls finding the path to their happy ending and learning to overcome while having all sorts of hot sex…my kind of story. I hope you agree, too.

And here’s a short excerpt:

She longed for a man who cared about her—or rather, two men who cared about her. Maybe she was crazy to hope that her shifter and vampire would come back for her, but she had little else to look forward to. Gale and Vic made her hot all over. She closed her eyes. In her mind, she saw both men. They were there and wanting her.

Need you, babe,” Gale said. The lanky vampire crossed the room and scooped her into his arms. “Missed you.” He crushed her mouth with his own and sucked on her tongue.

They might be a fantasy, but she’d take what she could get.

Vic eased up behind her. He cupped her breasts and nibbled on her neck. His tangy wolf scent wrapped around her, drawing a shudder from deep inside.

You want us.” Gale threaded his fingers in her hair and tugged. “At the same time? Sweet, greedy girl.”

Always want the both of you.” Her pussy creamed. She wanted both of them in her body. Now. “Please?”

Greetings from the hot and humid state of Oklahoma!  My name is Mia Dymond and I write sexy contemporary romance novels with a twist of sass. I currently have fourteen novels available on retailers including iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Amazon, and Smashwords.

My most recent release is Treasure Me, Book in the Alpha Four series.  Alpha Four is a tough, no-nonsense group of ex-Army Rangers with muscles of stone and hearts of gold.  Book one is the story of Lt. Dagan “Rebel” Caldwell and Sophie Graystone, a couple who clashes at every turn with the need for control.  I hope you’ll enjoy the rocky journey they travel to fall in love.  Please enjoy an excerpt:

Once Rebel held two steaming cups of coffee, he headed back to the table and sat beside her.  Much to his relief, she wasted no time in touching him.  She wrapped one hand around her cup, and wrapped the other around his forearm, her fingers drawing lazy circles against his skin.

“I’m curious,” she said as her fingers taunted the nerves beneath his skin, “how did you get your nickname?”

He chuckled low under his breath.  Curiosity was a good start.

“Curious, huh?”

She nodded.

“I’ve never been one to follow protocol.”

“In the Army?”

“In life.  I enlisted in an act of rebellion.”

“Is that a decision you regret?”

“Not in the least.  Thunder, Chaos, and Ace made it all worthwhile.”

“You guys are close.”

“Family.”

“I take it there are several stories behind those nicknames too.”

He nodded without elaboration.

“So,” she prompted, “tell me about your team.”

“Can’t do that.”

“Why?”

“Confidential.  I’d have to silence you if I told you and I’m not sure that’s possible.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I’m confident you’d find a way to challenge my methods.”

“You’d be disappointed if I didn’t.”

He snickered, aroused as hell by the fact that she didn’t hesitate before she fired right back at him.  No doubt, she’d challenge him alright and she was absolutely correct when she responded – disappointed didn’t begin to describe his feelings.

“Thunder assembled Alpha Four when he retired from the Army. It only took three phone calls to build a team.”

“The four of you are very loyal.”

He nodded.  “There’s just something about fighting evil that brings a team together.”

“Do you think about it often?”

He hesitated, weighing the decision to answer her.  He’d seen a whole lot of evil during his military tours, things that he’d never share with her.  Yet, thanks to Uncle Sam and Thunder, he’d learned to file it so far away that even memory couldn’t find it.

He glanced down at her fingers, still rubbing circles on his forearm and distracting him from answering her question.  Her soft, gentle touch caused the nerves under his skin to quiver with excitement.  What in the hell had she asked?

“Sophie?”

“Hmmm?”

“I can’t concentrate when you do that.”

Her brow furrowed.  “Do what?”

He glanced down at her fingers.  “That.  You’re driving me crazy.”

“Oh, really?”

Before he could stop himself, he nodded.  Oh. Hell. So much for never let them see you sweat.  He’d pretty much just handed her a whole locker of ammunition.

“Well, then.”  She blinked those deep, dark eyelashes several times as her fingers continued their assault.  “Perhaps you should answer my question.”

“No.”

“No?”

“I mean, no I don’t think about the evils in my past often.  Alpha Four gives me plenty to think about.”

“Are you in danger?”

“Not always.  Sometimes our assignments are as mundane as installing a security system.”

“Other times you put your life on the line for someone else.”

“Yes.”

“Like me.”

“Well, no one’s tried to kill you …. yet.”  He gave her hand a slight squeeze, buying a second of courage for his next comment.  “But I’d put my life on the line for you without a second thought.”

I hope you’ll enjoy Treasure Me!  Happy Reading!!!

After Haley Monroe’s estranged husband drops dead, she discovers he left her with a whole lot of debt and most of her family heirlooms missing. Too bad the only person who can help sort through the mess and clear her name is her late husband’s attorney…her only one-night stand and a man she never thought she’d see again.

Attorney Eli Libertini jumps at the chance to help Haley clear up the financial mess. He’d like nothing more than to reconnect with his hookup from spring break ten years ago—the woman he’s never been able to forget.

Thrown together in a dark fairytale adventure, the twosome uncovers a web of hidden heirlooms, ghostly encounters, and mysterious storage units about to be auctioned. They’ll have to forget the past in order to regain their shared passion and have a future.

Excerpt:

“Haley. Haley Monroe,” a man shouted. His deep voice sounded vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t quite recall where she’d heard it before. “Haley! Fancy meeting you here.”

Curious who had called her name, she turned to face the voice.

The man revealed himself. Eli Libertini—as in Libertini and Farthing—her husband’s lawyer. Eli was tall, dark, and ruthless. The armor on his knight’s costume shone like silver in the sunlight.

The man with him wore a monk’s robe. He stood nearly a half-foot shorter than Eli’s six-two and had at least twenty-five pounds of pure muscle on the lawyer.

If Eli hadn’t represented her husband during their bitter negotiations, she might consider him attractive. After all, she’d thought so ten years ago. And he hadn’t changed much during that time. He still wore his dark hair past his shoulders—shoulders much broader than she remembered. He’d even managed to grow taller and fill out very nicely, thank you very much.

But their heated exchange during the legal proceedings had left a hostile taste in her mouth. And nothing, not even his wide, single-dimpled smile, could erase the memory of the hurtful, untrue allegations he’d hurled at her.

“Fancy indeed,” she huffed.

makes it there before her clunker takes it’s last gasp.

Troy Jackson can’t wait to surprise his sister on her 30th birthday. He’s
recently moved back to Colorado to be closer to his only relative, Traci, a
psychologist living in Corbin’s Bend. The surprise is on Troy when his normally
conscientious sister runs amok on her big birthday proving that even
intelligent, independent women still need the stern guidance of the men in
their lives. Having grown up with loving parents who practiced the domestic
discipline way of life, both Traci and Troy subscribe to the founding
principles of the Corbin’s Bend community wholeheartedly.

Hallie’s family is thrilled to have her in Corbin’s Bend, but can Hallie come
to terms with living in a community based on its endorsement of spanking, a
practice Hallie sees as abuse. Can Traci’s counseling help her overcome her
fear in order to accept her new life in Corbin’s Bend, or is it Traci’s brother
who ultimately has the power to show Hallie that not all men are abusers?

v

I was
thrilled when I was accepted to be part of Corbin’s Bend season two
line-up.  I was about half-way through
reading season one’s stories when the ideas starting floating around in my mind
for my own story.  I was already in the
middle of writing another novel, but Troy and Hallie’s story was screaming loud
enough that I eventually had to pause long enough to write Life’s Unexpected Gifts.

One of the
things that has impressed me as each new Corbin’s Bend book is released is,
that while all of us authors started with the same general rules and background
information about the Corbin’s Bend residents, each of us has managed to put
our own flare and style into our stories.
I had read other books by some of the CB authors and I love to see their
style shining through in their own books.
Even better, I have found several new talented authors through the
series.

So, what
is the style I think I’ve added to my Corbin’s Bend book?  If you’ve read my Passion Series, I think you
would agree that I love to dive deep into character’s emotions and
motivations.   It was no accident that I
choose Corbin’s Bend resident therapist, Traci Jackson, as the entry character
for my story.   Our hero, Troy Jackson,
is her brother who comes to town for a visit, setting the story into
motion.  While Traci is not one of the
main characters, she does play a very important role throughout the story.   I hope you love her as much as I do.  In fact, I love Traci so much, she’s going to
get her own story!!

Most of
the excerpts I have been posting include my romantic couple, Troy and
Hallie.  For today, I thought I’d share a
short excerpt of Troy and his sister, Traci, from the start of Life’s Unexpected Gifts.

Troy flicks the TV off with the remote, grabbing his cell phone to
check the time. He glances to see it’s just after midnight. He pushes his
six-foot frame to his feet to make his way to peer out the long, decorative
side window flanking Traci’s front door. It’s pretty dark out, but what little
light there is from the nearest street lamp reflects off the bright white snow
to cast enough light for Troy to spot his sister struggling to get out of her
car, stepping into the deep snow of the driveway. What looks like a hulking
football lineman is already climbing out of the cab of his jacked-up truck,
parked directly behind his sister.

‘Shit. Isn’t she going to be surprised to
see me?’

Troy suddenly feels like a complete idiot for assuming his sister
would be happy to have him surprise her. Clearly, she’d made other plans for
her thirtieth birthday… plans he suspects she would prefer her brother not
know about. She’s never mentioned seeing anyone seriously, but clearly she must
have a boyfriend if she’s inviting the guy in this late.

Unsure how he should spring his surprise on his sister, he moves
across the room to the bank of light switches in the kitchen not far from the
front door. The houses in Corbin’s Bend all have an open floor plan and he’ll
be able to turn on the lights from the kitchen and call out his ‘surprise’.
Troy waits anxiously while he hears shuffling of feet on the outside front
porch.

He can hear his sister’s voice through the door. “Thanks for
making sure I made it home, Ronnie. G’night.” If Troy didn’t know better, he
could swear his sister sounds tipsy. Her words are slurred through the door.

“Oh come on, little lady. The night is young. It’s way too early
for me to go home and anyway, you haven’t let me give you your birthday
spanking yet. I know all you chicks from Corbin’s Bend love to have your butt
lit up by a big strong guy like me. Let me in and I’ll be sure to show you and
that hot ass of yours a good time.”

Troy stands frozen to his spot, in shock at his sister’s choice of
a date for her thirtieth birthday, his blood pressure rising with anger
directed at her escort. He prays this was a blind date or better yet, just a
misunderstanding. He’s waiting for her response when he hears a thud against
the front door from the outside followed by a sharp slap.

“Knock it off, Ronnie. It’s late and I ‘ave appoinments in the
morning. You need t’ go home.” Listening to his sister slur her words
infuriates Troy.

‘She fucking drove home impaired. I guess
her only other option had been to ride with the troll.’

“Like hell I’m leaving. I spent a Goddamn fortune buying you drinks
tonight. The least you can do is invite me in for one nightcap. I promise,
baby, I’ll go home right after one drink.”

Say no… tell him to bugger off… get lost…’

What comes out of her mouth is “Well, okay, but only one dink. And
no funny business.”

The jingle of keys in the lock is followed by the rush of cold air
from the ongoing

snowstorm outside. The front door isn’t closed one second before
the hulk named Ronnie has grabbed Traci, swinging her around to press her back
against her own front door, trapping her between the hard wood and the hard
muscles of her unwelcome guest. The jerk is so large, Troy can no longer see
any of his sister, but he does hear her struggling to free herself from the
aggressor’s grip.

Troy is enraged. Flipping every light switch on at once, the
entire space is immediately flooded in bright lights. Troy has to squint in the
sudden blaze of white, but he has an advantage. At least he knew the flash was
coming, unlike the brute manhandling his sister. Troy is sprinting by the time
he gets to the front door. Not bothering to stop, he hurls his full-body weight
into the side of the massive intruder, knocking the troll to the floor. He’s
about Troy’s height, but based on how hard he goes down, easily seventy-five
pounds heavier. The advantage of surprise coupled with the sheer velocity of
his tackle have Troy successfully wrestling the asshole to the floor where Troy
presses is forearm to Ronnie’s neck, cutting off his oxygen flow long enough to
subdue him.

Only once Troy is relatively sure Ronnie is going to stay down
without striking back does he let the high-pitch scream of his sister register.

“Traci, knock it off. It’s just me.” The screaming stops, replaced
with a shaky voice.

“Troy?”

“Yes. Were you expecting someone else? Maybe a home intruder or
even a mass

murderer?”

You’re the Halligan…

Kettle had it all.  Until he didn’t.
He lost it all in a moment.  One heart stopping, soul shattering moment, and there wasn’t a single thing he could do about it.
From that day forward, he stayed away from relationships.
Then he responded to a possible fire and there she was, rocking his world when he didn’t want it to be rocked.

To My…

Adeline was just a schoolteacher.  She lived a boring life.
Until she stole something.
And it didn’t have anything to do with the sexy firefighter’s heart.
Oh, she stole that, too, even if he didn’t want it to be stolen.

Axe…

Kettle didn’t realize just what kind of trouble Adeline was in until it nearly ripped her from his life.
There was no way anything was taking that away from him.
Not again.
One man was about to see up close and personal what fury looked like on the face of The Dixie Wardens MC’s enforcer.
